## Background
---
Most of the Maroon Volunteer denominations were formed in the first months of hostilities between the forces of Victoria Windsor's Sofiaraka faction of the [[Transelman Church of Saints|Transelman Church]] and the Yemisi Fayowa-led [[Voromiraka]]. By the outbreak of war in 659 AL, Fayowa's faction of the Church had well over 60000 members, but the majority— with the exception of Basilica strongholds in Sylens and Yola— were concentrated in the northern regions and would take time to cross into the main arenas of battle.
## Membership and Uniforms
---
Urban workers and peasants in the Coastal and Prairie regions who were sympathetic to Fayowa's vision of a united Transelman republic in the south with an uncompromising relationship to the nobility decided that they would confront the Sofiaraka by themselves until their Northern allies arrived. They were not centralized, and operated on a local basis according to what they felt would most assist Fayowa's stated goals. They adopted a similar uniform and operational structure as what they knew of actual Voromiraka apostles; black attire with maroon trim, and a denominational organization led by an especially powerful [[Flux users|Flux user]].
## Incorporation into Voromiraka
---
After the Velsh Intervention in the Transelman Civil War, Fayowa decided to formally incorporate the Maroon Volunteers into the command structure of the Voromorika; declaring them officially as the **Volunteer Denominations of the Transelman Church of Saints**, to be led by Bashir Yunusa, a very accomplished volunteer from Yola.
