People in [[Kedavaara]] are born with an innate connection to the flux, the natural energy that flows and resonates through all living things. The strength of this connection varies wildly, and while it’s usually mild and unremarkable, in some cases it is especially powerful: allowing those individuals to harness the flux, channel it through themselves and manifest it externally. This process is what is called alteration— the change from what was to what is. This is what it means for nature to be in flux. Change is the only constant. It’s not yet understood how exactly humans developed the capacity to harness the flux, but it is known to occur in several variations, each yielding a different kind of alteration. While different societies have different standards & classifications for these variations, and there could potentially be quite a few that are still undiscovered, very generally speaking there are twelve that are currently known to most people. #### DISCIPLINES OF ALTERATION --- | Light Arts | Dark Arts | | ----------- | ------------- | | Lumination | Floration | | Immolation | Magnetization | | Hydration | Dilation | | Petration | Gravitation | | Aeration | Dimension | | Fulguration | Isolation | The flux plays an important role in Kedavaaran societies. It constitutes the spiritual framework of many religions, and it has also been the basis for much of the societal discrimination that has existed on the continent— for hierarchical systems that placed those with stronger connections to the flux above the rest. The [[Transelmany|People's Republic of Transelmany]] exists in ideological opposition to all forms of flux-based discrimination, having been created partially in rejection of such a systems.
